Thursday, January 27, 2011 @ 4:50 PM - First Day

Hello peeps! Today's so called the first day in our new schools, well, for most of us. It feels weird going to another school in AMKSS Uniform all bright and early in the morning. So... MJC is a good school, with really amusing teachers (lecturers). And there, on my first day, I really felt like a lost sheep. MEH. I thought I was the only AMKsian posted there. When I walked in, the J2s were all screaming, cheering and what-not to welcome us. SCARY it seems.

It's freakish seeing people from all walks of life. Intimidating, in fact. To my surprise, there are especially large groups of Cedarians, Victorians and for a moment, I thought I saw Rafflesians too. I mean, there's this group with white blouse and green skirt (exactly like Raffles Junior Colleges'; plus they roll up their sleeves similarly) LOL. Probably they are??? I havn't got that figured out.

Anw, I only discovered that there are 2 other AMKsians posted there besides me, after the emo-lonely 1 hour break. Tzu Chun and Xing Hui are posted there too, so at least I'm not so lonely. Anw, every year there's always a maximum of 3 AMKsians posted there I think. (Since it's so far from AMK and very little people included that in their choices).

It felt weird at first in the Hall, cos some J1 retainees are also grouped and had to sit with us. I shall work hard not to end up like that... So basically today we had introduction to all the various subjects and I got to know about JC's workload better.

Initially I wanted to take up General Studies in Chinese (GSC) after the talk because it sounded good. But well, I guess not. I don't see any link of it to my future endeavors, so Econs is a better choice. My subject combination will be BCME (Bio, Chem, Math and Econs). I'll have to log in to the online portal by midnight today to submit my choices. The teachers are really amusing and rather 'zi-high' as we would call it, yeah, so they made the subjects sound interesting and I can't wait to start mugging alrdy. (I've not done any hardcore ones since MYE 2009 haha) I guess it won't be that bored sitting and listening to lectures after all, with such dedicated teachers.

Oh, by the way, it took me sometime to figure out that it isn't an image of a Dolphin in my school logo. It's a Lion. (Hahaha what a big diff). We also had Directors of Admissions from SMU, NTU, SUTD and NUS to talk to us about the University pre-requisites, so that we'll make well-informed choices about what subject combinations to take. They also introduced some scholarships that are available (and to my amazement, most of them are bond-free.)

I'm rather into SMU's Business Management now. But of course, I'll still aim for a scholarship to study abroad. However, we were also told that entering a local university doesn't mean that we won't be able to study abroad. We'll have summer study programmes or some other overseas study trips lined up for us (1 month or even 6 months), and we can also go abroad for internships/attachments.

Hmmmm. It seems like it's easy to get straight As or at least a combination of As and Bs according to one of the teachers. (She says that there are a lot of Meridians getting such results, so our CCA will be the one making a difference when we apply for a place in Universities - an all-rounder's what they're looking for)

Btw, my Principal is nice too. Erm everything about Meridian is good actually. But if my appeal is successful, I'll still move on to AJC (because it's really near AMKSS). I mean, AJC is a good school with dedicated teachers too (except for the facilities), and it being near to AMKSS is a plus point since I'll have to go back to school for Unit Trainings. If I travel down from Pasir Ris to AMKSS after curriculum, training will be over by then.

That said, I'm fine with Meridian too! I pretty much like the school. (Looking at it superficially, the Hall is airconditioned with 3 projectors and 3 big screens; and the field is made of carpet grass. Hahaha) The campus is really new, like what I would describe as the blue version of Nanyang JC. It's only 7 years old! (8 after this year!) And the rate at which it's improving is tremendous, considering that it's a budding college.

Btw, going to Meridian is faster than going to AMKSS from my house. I have direct access to at least 8 tertiary institutions. It'll take me the same time to travel to AJ and Meridian. But 109 is always crowded in the mornings (cos I'll have to pass by 3 secondary institutions I think). Hmmm hope the rest of you are happy with your JC! (Next year's A Level by the way DANG! Promos in 8 months!). And all the best to those appealing (I won't say good luck cos I need some luck too :p)

Alright it's been ages since I typed so much. Try feeling my excitement!
