Thursday, February 3, 2011 @ 11:43 PM - (MY)SPACE Orientation 2011

Hahahaha sorry for blogging so late! Okay so I'm supposed to post about my Orientation... I'll do it day by day (Don't know why but this sounds like a report)

DAY 1

We were allocated to our classes according to our subject combinations, and also to our houses according to our classes. So I'm in Miranda!

(Miranda 4! Taken on Day 3)

Most of them in black will be my classmates for the next 2 years. (Vivian, your primary school friend Cassandra is in my class too! And we both agreed that you are EPIC). Those in dark blue are our super nice and friendly OGLs. (Hahaha idk why but I'll feel embarrassed if anyone from school actually reads this post).

Oh yes... The theme for Orientation is (MY)SPACE Orientation 2011, and there's a storyline to it. Throughout the whole 3 days, the activities conducted were supposed to help us defeat the 'Nian' (in lieu of CNY I guess).

Below are the introductory videos (And I'm really awed by the visual effects and wondered why didn't I go to Poly to pursue my interest - sorry please don't come after me with a parang knife T-T I was merely, simply WONDERING).

Some parts are really funny. And basically on the start of each day, we get to watch a short video as a prelude, somewhat linked to the day's activities. (The other videos can be found on youtube as well, if you are interested)

Alright, so for the Opening of the Orientation, the Student Councillors got our Principal to come out in a spaceship which they made. The spaceship's big and quite impressive, and it was 'hovered' on top of a cart. So the Principal was basically pushed in, and she was holding some kind of rifle and wearing an orange radiator-like sunglasses. She's called 'Queen Naidiriem' for the Orientation (Naidiriem's our planet so we've to protect it from destruction by the 'Nian')

Hahaha so basically the House Captains of each house came out first with their weird outfits (there are a total of five houses). Then the 'Nian' came out. HAHAHA and the House Captains collapsed as the 'Nian' swung his clothes hanger around.

Then the Principal came in with the spaceship and said 'Aiyo how can you all die because of the clothes hanger!' or something along that line. I found that quite funny. I mean, I've hardly seen any Principal as sporting as her. Then she has to shoot this ping pong gun towards the curtains and the curtains got drawn to the sides. And confetti were blasted all over the stage.

After that we had to learn couple dance! I paired up with a girl from another class, sorta made friends with more people.

This is the couple dance! The Student Council also uploaded step-by-step videos to each dance. There are a total of 3 mass dances - the fusion dance, boom boom pow and couple dance. It's fun when everyone do it together, but I can't do the fusion and boom boom pow HAHAHA.

After that we had station games all around school, and lunch break all that. I think the station games are fun, and it would be great if they were used for Secondary School's Orientation, but after thinking of it I think the Sec 1s aren't suitable for them.

There's this game in the field (passing the waterbombs with the garbage bags), and in the end the OGLs splashed water directly out of the bucket to ensure that all of us are wet. And I was indeed wet from top to toe after that. LOL. (And it's super cold please! I think they filled the water from the water cooler.)

At the end of the day, we received our Opack, which consists of a shoebag, wristband, collarbadge, laptop case, card lanyard, 2 shirts, an eco-friendly bag, and pencil cases. (Of course it's not free cos we paid $28 for them, but I think it's quite cheap considering the items inside).

DAY 2

We went to our homerooms for the first time (I guess) Mine's on the 4th floor. We had temperature taking and morning assembly in class. After that we moved out to the Hall for event briefing. The amazing race was termed MMM (Mighty Meridian March).

So first stop my group went to an ulu place in Tanjong Pagar, and we had to do some physical exercises to clear it. Then we walked to the streets and have to take pictures with people with gold watch, iPhone, high-heels, green collared shirts and a ring. Also had to take pictures of us hugging passerbys and all. There was another game after that before we proceed on to,

Clarke Quay. Hahaha. I think this was the stop where some of my classmates got left out of the packed train. The most significant game at Clarke Quay was the passing of meal worms! (It was somewhere near the area where we played gmax) And we sort of became the 'tourist attraction' there. We had to pass many mealworms with our barehands, in a triangle, and some meal worms get stuck onto the hand. And most of us are scared cos it's disgusting and we screamt. LOL.

After the station games there, we had our meal at Burger King. It was too packed, so we took away and sat outside to eat. Then, we proceeded on to Orchard. It was fun running in ION Orchard. It reminds me of the Amazing Race I planned together with the 9th EXCO for the Student Council Camp 2 YEARS BACK (*gasps*)

Okay... For the station games there we did a few sets of jumping jets outside the shopping mall (haha the OGL almost got us to get to pumping positions). We did a few group shots with Triton 4, Callisto 4, Atlas 4 and Phobos 4 before heading back to school.

We ran all the way to the school hall from the bus stop (cos the House with all the groups back first get more points). Our OGLs treated us to bubbletea from cupwalker! To end off the day, we had debrief and we did all 3 of our mass dances.

DAY 3

We assembled at the Assembly Plaza for morning assembly (Hmmm it's actually quite awkward because I've always wanted to sing Majulah Singapura but seems like no one's doing it!) Then we had CNY Celebrations, with the Lion dances (Our Principal actually went around taking photos like a photographer hahaha).

Next, we had our last game at the field. Wet water games. Anw, I think we're supposed to have Orientation ending with a campfire, but we can't due to the Lunar New Year. The 'Nian' (Student Council Vice-Chairperson - the traitor lol) was laying down under a 6 metre tall tripod, and we had to destroy him by throwing waterbombs at the tripod. Before that we had to build our 'human ships' by holding our hands, and we had attackers to attack the OGLs. They were all seriously wet after that. We got wet too! But because of the wind, our clothes managed to dry quite fast.

Next we had debrief and phototakings, followed by CNY potluck (reunion breakfast) with the JC2s. We all did more cheers after that. I think the school spirit in Meridian's quite strong and most of our seniors are really funny people (even the teachers too!)

----------------------------------------------

Now I feel more oriented and comfortable to the school, so yeah... Quite excited to have school in lecture-style. There are a lot of empty periods for me on the coming Monday though. Like, the day ends at 5.05 pm but I'm only having 4 periods of lessons (each period spans over 50 minutes). So this is it. This is the JC life. Lol.

Okay I think this lengthy post is enough to make it up for the late posting! :) See you guys later!
