8:40 PM - Split of A Second
Hello!!! Once again, another week has passed and it's Terrific Thursday again! (well, maybe not...)
Alright, after tomorrow, I would have completed the test bomb of 1 Chem SPA and 6 tests. (I have a 6 chapter geog test tomorrow -screams and pulls hair strands-) I suppose all of you have heard the news of how a 32-year-old businessman got killed by a falling tree somewhere around Thomson Road. I felt kind of overwhelmed with sadness upon hearing the news. He has a 2 and a half year old daughter, and a wife whom he married for 4 years. I share the same interest as him. (sort of...) He was about to open a Web Design company with his secondary school friend and kick start in the business field as an entrepreneur. Sometimes I think we should learn to appreciate things around us more; our life, and people around us. Because who knows what may happen next? He sends his daughter to the nursery and his wife to her law firm (where she works at as a Secretary) every morning. And then, the incident happened when he went for a lunch break. And the thing is, he just bought the car recently... It's all so unexpected. Perhaps if there really is a harbinger of death or doom, we'll cherish and treasure everything so much more. Like, I won't blame my Mom for not cooking lunch, I won't rant about having to study this and that or hate Newton for all the laws he made from a fallen apple, and I won't even bother quarreling with my friends! Unpredictable, unpredictable... A life was lost in the split of a second. ON THE OTHER HAND, 3 lives are saved in the split of a second. Another tree fell this morning (7.38 am), and nearly killed 3 people in the car. And, the venue is right at Ang Mo Kio Street 22, down the road of our school, near the marketplace (Blk 226). I suppose we would all have walked past the tree before. And right at that time I was reading the Thursday ST Times newspaper distributed before lessons, about the fallen tree that killed the businessman (okay, this is not really the point). ![]() ![]() ![]() Photos from The Straits Times' website. The victims are unhurt, but went through quite a lot of emotional trauma. I reckon that it's better to not get on the pathways along the trees during heavy downpours. The trees were uprooted by microbursts (which results in wind speed travelling at maximum 160 km/h, lasting for 5-15 minutes). If I'm not wrong, 2 or 3 years ago, a woman was killed by a falling tree when she went jogging in the park. Also, if you know of the recent crane-crashing-into-bus news (which killed 1 and left 8 injured), the crane was actually lifting chopped down parts of a tree or something. NOW, THERE OUGHT TO BE A CONTROVERSY OVER TREES. DEADLY, OR DEADLY NOT? (NO, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE CYNICAL ABOUT THE NPARKS' EFFORTS TO MONITOR TREES :X) A'ight... Time for Geography. Goodnight Happy People! p/s: I just washed my RCY uniform and polished my boots. Heading home after EM Mock Exam before Awards Nite. Hope I won't rush like crazy. p/s p/s: It really kind of frightens me whenever I flip the newspaper and see news of people dying. I'm not exactly afraid of death, but not really so brave enough to face it either. Labels: Mendi |
